What days do you photograph Boston proposals?
I photograph outdoor proposals during sunrise or sunset golden hour 7 days a week. I primarily photograph proposals Monday-Thursday though to help avoid crowds for a more private experience.
What time do you photograph Boston surprise proposals?
To get the most flattering light I photograph surprise proposal sessions within 90 minutes after sunrise or 90 minutes before sunset. That way you don’t have to squint with the sun, it won’t create deep shadows under your eyes, and it has the dreamiest golden light!
Best season for a Boston proposal
Summer: June-first two weeks of September
Fall Foliage for the Boston area: Depends on the time of year but in the past peak has been October 17th- first week of November (best locations for foliage Boston Public Garden, Charles River Esplanade, Houghton’s Pond, Borderland State Park)
Cherry Blossom Proposal Session- (Morning proposals only due to crowds): If you want the cherry blossoms to be in bloom then in years past it looks like they were really showing off April 15th and then only had a little left April 23. It depends on the year- sometimes they are peaking the first week of May but I’d still say a majority of the time mid April is the best! I’m always willing to move a session date if our original booked date looks like the cherry blossoms will bloom later than expected. I always scout around my favorite areas in early April, so you’ll never be surprised with no blooms at your session.
Tulips in the Public Garden: Late April – Early May (My session on May 12th had them in full bloom)
Holiday Decorations- Boston Common, Beacon Hill, Comm Ave: The Boston Common tree lighting is usually the first week of December so after that the lights stick around through the holiday season. You’ll have holiday lights and cute decorations adorning the Public Garden, Comm Ave, and Beacon Hill. From a previous session, decorations and holiday wreaths were still showcased in Beacon Hill January 12th. Think warm layers and cozy scarves!
Winter: January-early March. Aside from the remaining holiday decorations and the chance of snow, if you don’t want to see the trees without their leaves or nothing in bloom then it’s best to do a proposal highlighting more of the architecture or ocean. Best areas during these months would be Beacon Hill, the Seaport, and East Boston.
