WHEN DO THE CHERRY BLOSSOMS TYPICALLY BLOOM IN NYC?
In 2025 the cherry blossoms bloomed late March through April and had peak mid to late April. Okame cherry trees are the first to bloom (mid to late March), then Yoshino cherry trees (white/light pink flowers), and finally Kwanzan cherry trees (typically in April).
I’m always willing to move a session date if our original booked date looks like the cherry blossoms will bloom later than expected. I always scout around my favorite areas in March as soon as they start to bloom, so you’ll never be surprised with no blooms at your session.

NYC CHERRY BLOSSOM FIRST BLOOM & PEAK DATES
2025: First bloom March 28th in the Brooklyn Botanical Garden.
2024: First bloom March 12th in the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. Kwanzan cherry blossoms peaked around late April (April 23 peak in Central Park).
WHAT TIME DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH CHERRY BLOSSOM COUPLE SESSIONS IN NYC?
I photograph cherry blossom sessions at sunrise Monday-Friday. Due to the hundreds of tourists, influencers, and photographers that come in the afternoon, I only photograph cherry blossom sessions at sunrise (it’s totally worth the early wake-up to have the park all to yourselves) unless you select the Brooklyn Botanical Garden (then we aim for opening business hours).
WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY NYC CHERRY BLOSSOM ENGAGEMENT SESSION?
I recommend starting to book as early as February to secure your date since the blossoms peak for such a limited time. Especially if you want to book a session at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, then we will need to secure a permit for your date. April will be the best chance for peak cherry blossom blooms!
