As a wedding photographer, here is my checklist on what to include in your wedding flat lay. Not all wedding photographers do wedding flat lays for their clients, but I really enjoy doing them to showcase the sentimental details of a wedding day. I don’t like leaving it up to chance on what type of getting ready space I’ll be in, so I use my Chasing Stone styling mat (You can use my discount code MEGHAN for 10% off) to have an elevated backdrop no matter where the wedding takes place.

By no means do you need to set aside these items, if having your details photographed isn’t as much of a priority. If wedding flat lay photos are important to you then it’s best to communicate that to your wedding photographer so they can bring the proper items to your wedding and ensure they have ample time to capture your details and getting ready photos. I love brining my styling mat, ribbon, ring boxes, and jewelry tray- all in the colors that match the theme of the day! I designate a full hour during the getting ready portion of the day to photograph all your special details.

WEDDING DETAIL PHOTOS TOP TIPS

Leave a clear area by a window for your wedding photographer to use to set up his or her styling mat.

Please have wedding attire completely unwrapped and free of all paper and plastic when your wedding photographer arrives, and hang on a non-plastic hanger for photos if you’ve got one.

Have a box / bag / dedicated area with all your wedding details for your wedding photographer to photograph when they arrive.

Take the plastic wrapping and tags off the items you’ll be using so it doesn’t eat into your photo time.

Ask your florist if you can have 2-5 loose florals / stems for styling details when they deliver the bouquets – they’ll know what that means!  If you want a photo of all the boutonnieres together before putting them on then I suggest making sure the florist does the drop off at least 30 minutes before our ceremony departure.

Wait for your wedding photographer to put on your tie, cufflinks, jacket, shoes, etc. and/or if you will be giving gifts to groomsmen or reading a letter from your partner.
